Designed as the main processing engine of cPCI Bus with hot swap capability, TRL 6215 offers flexible configuration for Pentium class processor and utilize the PC industry standard DIMM socket for DRAM. TRL 6215 build-in with many standard PC expansion peripherals, up to four PMC expansion capabilities on PCI Bus and front and rear I/O options for different OEM applications. User can select one, two or three cPCI slot configurations with options of many on-board peripherals. The optional of 10/100MB Ethernet port is available for network applications.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

The cPCI bus is driven by PCI to PCI bridge supports up to seven bus master slots. The primary PCI bus is confined to the local on-board PCI device and available from on-board PMC connectors. The TRL 6215 fully supports the Intel Socket 7 Specification for Pentium class processors to provide the latest computing power for the OEM. Auto configuration of split voltage devices are supported, allowing jumper-less use of multiple source Pentium class CPUs with performance to 333 MHz, including MMX technology. The 430HX, a third generation PCI chipset chip set from Intel is designed to maximize throughput on the PCI bus capable of burst mode transfers to 110 Mbytes per second between PCI and main memory. It also supports error correction (ECC) memory providing the highest data protection. Jumper-less setups of interrupt routings and configuration options are configurable through the BIOS setup screen.

HOT SWAP

TRL 6215 allows hot swap compliance add-on boards on the cPCI bus to be removed or inserted with power on. Individual clocks for each slot on back plane must be provided. Add-on boards access to the back plane ENUM# signals are required to be in compliance with the PICMG 2.1 Hot Swap Specification. Hot Swap-Compatible is not intended to be inserted or removed the SBC in a powered system.

THERMAL MANAGEMENT

Without external forced air cool and with adequate ventilation, cooling requires an integrated heat sink and fan to cool the processor. On-board voltages of +5 and +12VDC are provided for fan application. With this arrangement, the TRL 6215 is rated for 0° to 55° C operation at 366MHz.

DRAM PERFORMANCE

Total capacity of 512MBytes Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM on DIMM socket is used for high performance. Optional Error Correcting (ECC) DRAM is available for improved reliability and data integrity.

FLASH MEMORY

TRL 6215 comes with up to 4Mbits of on board flash memory for system BIOS. Optional user defined application flash memory can be upgraded from 2M up to 144MBytes on a DIP socket. These optional flash memories can be use as a solid state disk or to store a bootable operating system image.

CACHE MEMORY

The processor contains internal Level one (L1) cache memory. Level two (L2) cache is provided on-board the TRL 6215 with 512Kbytes of Pipelined, Burst Static Memory (PBSRAM).

ON BOARD PERIPHERALS

The TRL6215 contains many PC standard on-board peripherals, making it a very powerful stand along single board computer as well as a sophisticated main cPCI processor. In addition to the standard keyboard, timers, real-time clock, two serial (16550) ports and IEEE-1284 bi-direction parallel ports, it also contains two Enhanced IDE (EIDE) controller, a mouse port, a floppy controller, two Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports and an optional fast 10/100MB Ethernet port.

WATCHDOG TIMER

The watchdog timer can be set by user to monitor system operation. Failure of data to strobe the watchdog timer within a fixed time period will provide auto power-on reset for the system.

ENHANCED IDE INTERFACE

TRL 6215 provides support for two integrated PCI-based Enhanced IDE (EIDE) controller. The primary EIDE provides the option for two IDE devices integrated on the Peripheral Device Carrier board mounted on the TRL6215 to become a two slot configuration. Both the primary and secondary EIDE channel are available through the rear-panel I/O J3 connector.

FLOPPY INTERFACE

An on-board floppy disk controller provides the option for an integrated floppy disk drive. The floppy disk drive signals are routed to the rear-panel I/O J3 connector for off-board support.

KEYBOARD AND MOUSE INTERFACE

The TRL6215 supports a PS/2 style keyboard and mouse connector at the front panel as well as through the rear-panel I/O J3 connector.

FRONT PANEL SWITCHES AND INDICATORS

System power-on reset and Non Maskable Interrupt (NMI) reset switches are accessible form the front panel. LED’s are provided on the front-panel for EIDE activities, Ethernet negotiation and speed statues and system power statues.

BACK PANEL I/O CARD

The TRL 6215 brings most I/O signals out of the rear of the board on J3. These signals can be connected via a rear-panel 6U transition board TRL 1215.

PMC EXPANSION SLOT

The build-in PMC bus makes the TRL6215 configurable for a wide range of system requirements. One user defined 55 pins connection is available for interface with back panel I/O on J5. Three optional on-board PMC slots are available to be integrated as a two-slot configuration with total four PMC slots.

PERIPHERAL ADAPTER

The optional Peripheral Adapter mounted on top the PMC slot can accommodate EIDE LS120 floppy drive, EIDE hard drives or flash expansion drives.

SYSTEM SOFTWARE SUPPORT

The TRL6215 comes standard with AMI BIOS. Options are available for MS-DOS and other OS boot files loaded to on-board flash. The BIOS is user configurable to boot an operating system residing in local flash memory, from a fixed or floppy drive or over a network. The flexibility of the BIOS allows the TRL6215 operates in many configurations to support popular operating systems such as Windows 95, Windows NT, pSOS, QNX, VxWorks and UNIX.

OPTIONAL EMMBEDED APPLICATION

TRL6215 can be integrated with an optional ATX power connector with a front panel accessible power on/off switch for the back plane less stand along applications.
